چکیده

We present here central velocity dispersion measurements for 325 early-type galaxies in eight clusters and groups of galaxies, including new observations for 212 galaxies. The clusters and groups are the A262, A1367, Coma (A1656), A2634, Cancer and Pegasus clusters, and the NGC 383 and NGC 507 groups. The new measurements were derived from medium dispersion spectra, that cover 600 A centered on the Mg Ib triplet at 5175. Velocity dispersions were measured using the Tonry & Davis cross-correlation method, with a typical accuracy of 6%. A detailed comparison with other data sources is made. Subject headings: distance scale | galaxies: distances and redshifts | galaxies: elliptical and lenticular | galaxies: fundamental parameters | galaxies: kinematics and dynamics

DASTWAR: a tool for completeness estimation in magnitude-size plane

Today, great observatories around the world, devote a substantial amount of observing time to sky surveys. The resulted images are inputs of source finder modules. These modules search for the target objects and provide us with source catalogues. We sought to quantify the ability of detection tools in recovering faint galaxies regularly encountered in deep surveys. Our approach was based on com...

0 The Fundamental Plane of Gravitational Lens Galaxies and The Evolution of Early - Type Galaxies in Low Density Environments

Most gravitational lenses are early-type galaxies in relatively low density environments – a " field " rather than a " cluster " population. Their average properties are the mass-averaged properties of all early-type galaxies. We show that field early-type galaxies with 0 < z < 1, as represented by the lens galaxies, lie on the same fundamental plane as those in rich clusters at similar redshif...

The Fundamental Plane of Early–type Galaxies in Nearby Clusters from the Wings Database: First Version

By exploting the data of three large surveys (WINGS, NFPS and SDSS), we present here a comparative analysis of the Fundamental Plane Log(Re) = a Log(σ) + b 〈μ〉e + c (FP hereafter) of the early-type galaxies (ETGs) belonging to 59 galaxy clusters in the redshift range 0.04 < z < 0.07. We show that the variances of the distributions of the FP coefficients derived for the clusters in our sample ar...

In this paper we summarize the main properties of the ENACS (the ESO Nearby Abell Cluster Survey), which was one of the ESO Keypro-grammes carried out in the first half of the 1990's, and we discuss some recent work on the properties of the galaxies in the rich clusters in the ENACS sample. We stress the importance of the ENACS sample as a local , volume-limited sample of rich ACO clusters, whi...
